STRATTON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, SCOTIA, NY (03/09/2012)(readMedia)-- Thirty Airmen assigned to the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing departed Stratton Air National Guard Base this morning for a 60-day deployment to Afghanistan.

The Airman and one C-130 Hercules aircraft assigned to the wing will fly missions in support of Operating Enduring Freedom.

While the 109th Airlift Wing is best known for operating LC-130 ski-equipped aircraft which supply National Science Foundation missions in Antarctica and Greenland the wing also flies missions in support of ongoing operations. 109th Airlift Wing members also regularly deploy to Air Expeditionary Wings operating in support of American and allied forces around the world.
