HANCOCK FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE (11/16/2020) (readMedia)-- Recruiters for the New York Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing will host their annual Educate the Educator event at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base on Wednesday November 18.

Members of the press are invited to cover the event.

WHO: Recruiters and leaders of the 174th Attack Wing of the New York Air National Guard, high school guidance counselors, teachers, professors and mentors.

WHAT: Air National Guard recruiters will explain to educators what membership in the 174th Attack Wing entails, the education benefits available to members of the Air National Guard and the skills that members of the Air national Guard. The two-hour session will showcase multiple job specialties the 174th Attack Wing has to offer and include a a tour of Hancock Field Air National guard Base.

WHEN: 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, November 18th, 2020.

Visual opportunities will include a tour of Hancock Field and learning about the benefits the 174th Attack Wing has to offer. The 174th recruiting force will be on site to answer any questions and provide the opportunity to "Join the Team".

Members of the press who wish to cover the event must contact Master Sgt. Barbara Olney at 315-233-2651 no later than noon on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Reporters must plan on being at the base gate no later than 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 18 and wear a protective face mask.

BACKGROUND:

Hancock Field Air National Guard Base has served as an important military asset since shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In the ensuing 70+ years, members of the 174th Attack Wing and its associated units have proudly served in the Berlin Crisis, Pueblo Crisis, Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Provide Comfort Ii, Northern Watch, Allied Force, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, Odyssey Dawn, Freedom's Sentinel, Resolute Support, and in support of countless other missions.

The daily mission across Hancock Field is to provide qualified airmen and weapon systems for joint global air, space and cyberspace operations, in support of homeland defense, and to aid civil authorities at the direction of the Governor of New York State.

Hancock Field Air National Guard Base is home to a number of diverse and unique missions, including 174th Attack Wing's MQ-9 combat operations mission, MQ-9 aircrew training mission, and MQ-9 maintenance training mission; and the 152nd Air Operations Group's air operations center mission.

Over $142 million has been invested in Hancock Field Air National Guard Base since 2000 to keep it at the forefront, contributing to national defense and homeland security.
