2007 Shows NY Republicans Are Back; 2008 Will Be Even Better With Rudy in the Lead
Mondello Statement
ALBANY, NY (11/12/2007)(readMedia)-- On Election Day, New Yorkers witnessed the undeniable comeback of the Republican Party, but it was only the beginning. We have already started working toward next year, and we will have an even better 2008 thanks to the tremendous boost we will receive from having Rudy Giuliani at the top of the ticket.
Our victories across the state proved that New Yorkers are looking for strong Republican leadership. We ran quality, experienced candidates who worked hard, listened to the voters, and effectively communicated a vision for a better New York that addressed people's key concerns-- tax relief, job creation and commonsense criminal justice measures. These efforts resonated with New Yorkers and led to Republican victories in hundreds of critical races across the state.
In the few areas we did not win this year, we ran extremely competitive races and often lost by a relative handful of votes. With Rudy at the top of the ticket, we will win the close races, take back congressional seats, increase our majority in the State Senate, pick up seats in the State Assembly and help local candidates.
This Spring, I was proud to join with elected officials and County Chairs from across the State to offer one of the earliest and broadest endorsements of Rudy Giuliani's candidacy, because as New Yorkers, we know what Rudy Giuliani can do. He helped return New York City-- which had become infamous for crime, welfare and unemployment-- to a vibrant city that was brimming with economic activity, secure for families and businesses to call home and teaming with renewed hope for the future. On September 11th, the eyes of the world turned to Rudy Giuliani, whose steadfast courage and visionary leadership gave us all faith that we could rise above monumental challenges, persevere and succeed.
With Rudy Giuliani leading Republican candidates in 2008, we will flourish. The enthusiasm and interest that comes with a Giuliani nomination will energize our party, encourage more quality candidates to enter races and bring out voters in record numbers. Rudy has already helped motivate our party and assist candidates in several key races last week. His name at the top of the ballot in November 2008 will propel even more Republicans to victory in tough races, in swing districts, and in seats we haven’t held for years. This will happen not only in New York, but in New Jersey, throughout the Northeast, and across the country.
To truly be reinvigorated, our party here in New York and nationwide needs a candidate who will run a hard campaign in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, California-- not a candidate who will win the nomination and abandon traditionally Democrat states. Rudy is the only Republican who has the ability to win here in New York and be competitive in all 50 states.
We made tremendous strides over the past twelve months, and the upcoming year will bring even more positive change. We will continue our efforts to help Rudy win New York and the White House, because we know he is the best candidate to be President. With Rudy leading the way, the future will be bright for Republicans, New Yorkers and the entire nation.
