DES MOINES, IA (03/09/2020) (readMedia)-- State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald wants to remind Iowans to apply for the 2020 Robert D. Blue Scholarship at rdblue.org. Graduates of any Iowa high school who plan to attend a college or university in the state of Iowa for the 2020-2021 school year are eligible to apply.

Awards are based on financial need, an original essay, academic achievement and written recommendations. "Awarding this scholarship to an Iowa student allows us to reward those who have created a lasting impression on their communities," Fitzgerald stated. "It is my honor to be part of this process and provide students the tools they need to achieve greatness."

Established by the Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation, the Robert D. Blue Scholarship is awarded to an Iowan who will be attending one of Iowa's exemplary institutions of higher education. Since its creation in 1949 by Governor Robert D. Blue, the scholarship has helped hundreds of Iowa students fulfill their higher education dreams. Last year, eight outstanding students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship. All recipients went to various colleges and universities across the state.

Robert D. Blue Scholarship applications are only accepted online through May 10 at rdblue.org. Applicants must complete each step of the application to be considered for the scholarship and winners will be announced during the summer. Those who would like more information on the Robert D. Blue Scholarship should visit the website or call the treasurer's office at (515) 281-7003.
