2nd UPDATE: Thruway Authority Announces All Northbound Lanes Open, Southbound Lanes Remain Closed

All Southbound Lanes Remain Closed Between Interchanges 21 & 20

ALBANY, NY (01/11/2010)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority has announced the northbound lanes between Interchanges 20 and 21 have been reopened. The southbound lanes remain closed due to a southbound tractor trailer accident at milepost 108.8.

Earlier this morning, around 4 a.m., a tractor trailer accident at milepost 108.8 southbound - along I-87 approximately 5 miles south of Interchange 21 (Catskill, Cairon, Route 23) - closed all lanes along I-87.

At this time, both lanes southbound along I-87 between Interchanges 21 and 20 remain closed. Interchange 21 is located at milepost 113.89; Interchange 20 is located at milepost 101.25.

Southbound motorists are advised to seek alternate routes and plan for extended delays during the morning commute. The southbound lanes will be reopened as soon as conditions safely permit.

The Authority has activated Highway Advisory Radio and Dynamic Message Signs and has sent TRANSalerts to subscribers to notify them of the closure and resulting delays.

The Authority appreciates motorists' patience during this unscheduled closure.
