35th Annual Fashion Show Radiates Excitement on the Runway and Will Be Live Streamed Around the World

"Fashion Is…" Covers All Aspects of the Multi-Billion Dollar Industry

BATAVIA, NY (04/12/2016)(readMedia)-- The countdown is on for "Fashion is" the 35th annual student-produced Fashion Show at Genesee Community College. Under the guidance of GCC professors Rick Dudkowski and Donna Ehrhart, more than 20 students coming from as far away as Brazil and Alaska, as well as from many communities in western New York, are working hard to put the finishing touches on the professionally produced program. As in year's past, standing-room-only crowds are anticipated for the two shows, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

"Fashion Is..." brings a tremendous amount of imagination to this year's show because of the wide spectrum of creativity and diversity that comes with the broad theme. "Fashion Is..." has given the students the opportunity to not only uniquely express their creativity and personal styles, but touches on how fashion influences every aspect of today's culture and society. "Throughout the years, I have enjoyed having well-over one thousand students come through the Fashion program. Many of them came from far-away places, or even more likely, they are now living and working in far-away places. Each year it is an honor to watch students pool together their talent to stylistically complete their year-long assignment on the runway in front of a crowd of people. Now, the crowd can include friends and family back home – even if home is across the country, in another time zone, or in another continent," Dudkowski said. "We hope our many alumni will tune in as well."

"Fashion is..." will open with a fun, fast-paced introductory video that pulls in photos, footage and images from year's past – giving the Fashion alumni a chance to reminisce and reflect on their own career trajectories into the world. With the collaborated effort from the Digital Art, Learning Technology, and Communication and Media Arts programs here at GCC the students gain experience in poster design, visual displays, and create great radio advertisements for promotional service. Additionally, the Fashion Show relies on the skills and assistance of the students in the programs listed above along with GCC's Tourism and Hospitality Management program to create a fun and entertaining post-show party and also oversee the activities in the front and back of the house. GCC's Campus Security and Student Safety Patrol are also involved by ensuring crowd control and safety.

For advance tickets to either the 3 p.m. or 7 p.m. of "Fashion is....", which occurs in the William W. Stuart Forum of GCC's Batavia Campus, call 585-345-6830. Advance tickets are $5 and are strongly recommended. If available, tickets at the door on the day of the show are $7.
