4-H Beef of Merit Show Recognizes Top Exhibitors at Iowa State Fair
DES MOINES, IA (09/07/2010)(readMedia)-- Logan Bauer of Exira and Travis Rue of Decorah exhibited the top two animals in the 4-H Beef of Merit Show August 17 at the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
Bauer exhibited the champion steer in the High Cutability Division. Casey Matney of Liscomb took the Reserve Champion ribbon. Wyatt Orr of Mediapolis earned Third Place Overall.
Rue exhibited the champion steer in the High Quality Division, while Andy Klouda of Mt. Vernon won the Reserve Champion honors. Katie Morris of Centerville earned Third Place Overall.
The 4-H Beef of Merit is a terminal show. The dual purpose of the contest is a live show followed by a carcass contest in which the economically important traits of beef are evaluated scientifically. Live placings are for ribbons only. Final placing of these cattle will be determined after processing and carcass evaluation. The final winner of each division earns $500.
