50th Anniversary of Star Trek Celebrated in Butter at the 2016 Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (07/20/2016)(readMedia)-- Butter is going space age as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the popular TV series and film, Star Trek, will join the 2016 Butter Cow in the John Deere Agriculture Building August 11-21.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary and "Star Trek Beyond's" release this week, long time butter sculptor, Sarah Pratt, will be sculpting Captain Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy and Uhura in two scenes on the bridge, along with a model of the starship USS Enterprise.

The first Butter Cow was created in 1911 and since 1996, companion sculptures have joined the famous butter cow. Previous butter sculptures have included Grant Wood's American Gothic, Garth Brooks, The Last Supper, Superman, Shawn Johnson and the 80th anniversary of Monopoly in 2015. Sarah Pratt, the current sculptor, took over for Duffy Lyon in 2006 after 15 years as her apprentice.
