A Golden Toilet Seat is the Prize Possession for the Outhouse Races at the Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IA (08/19/2018) (readMedia)-- Mike McDowel Grain Company won the 15th annual Outhouse Races Tuesday at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. Team members Mike McDowell, Tiffany Pipho, Tony Rabrr and Nick Greif of Des Moines were awarded $300 in cash and a golden toilet seat for besting their competition in speed.

The Rasmussen Group from Des Moines made up of Kyle McClain, Olivia Rasmussen, Zach Hollier and Steve Snell took second place with a $200 cash prize and a silver plunger.

Third place, $100 in cash and a bronze plunger went to Santa's Tinkle Shop, members included: Cain Kahl, Dave Moses, Griffin Paulsen, Emily Puck and Erin Puck from Muscatine. Santa's Tinkle Shop also took home the Best Costume award.

The Best House award went to CW Iowa of Des Moines, Members included: Tavin Banks, Brian O'Keefe, Karlos Kirby, Jackie Schmillen and Lou Sipolt.

Teams, composed of three pushers and one driver, construct their own outhouses. During the race, teams push the outhouses to a toilet where the drivers must clean off the toilet seat without using their hands. Then the drivers search for a corn cob buried in a cattle trough, change a roll of toilet paper and return to the outhouses where the teams push them back to the starting point.
