A Summer of Theater at SUNY Delhi

DELHI, NY (07/03/2015)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi is proud to announce the return of the New York State Summer School of the Arts (NYSSSA) School of Theatre for the third consecutive year. NYSSSA will offer four performances on four select evenings at 7 p.m. in The Okun Theatre in the Farrell Student and Community Center.

"We are thrilled that the New York State Summer School of the Arts allows our community to experience these top-notch performances," said SUNY Delhi President Candace Vancko. "SUNY Delhi loves hosting the School of Theatre, and I hope you will plan to attend a performance."

All performances are free and open to the public and are scheduled as follows:

• Thursday, July 16 – "Tea for Three: Lady Bird, Pat, and Betty" This play features Emmy Award-winning actress Elaine Bromka and is a whimsical and deeply moving, behind-the-scenes look at Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, and Betty Ford.

• Sunday, July 19 – "Mrs. Hank" Actor, writer, director and teacher Randy Noojin takes the stage in a reading of his play featuring the music of Hank Williams. Last year, Randy wowed audiences with his performance of Hard Travelin' with Woody, based on the life and times of Woody Guthrie.

• Sunday, July 26 – "Hurt People" Written and performed by Allison Scarlet Jaye, this performance offers an eye opening look at young people making decisions about guns.

• Thursday, August 6 – NYSSSA Student Performances This is an opportunity to see the stars of tomorrow. NYSSSA student actors will take the stage, displaying the skills they have learned during their four weeks in the School of Theatre.

Student artists experience the discipline and rigors of theater life while living in the community setting of the SUNY Delhi campus. NYSSSA's competitive audition process is open to New York state residents in grades 8-12. More information is available at: http://www.oce.nysed.gov/nysssa/.
