ATTORNEYS HONORED WITH NYS BAR'S JOHN E. LEACH MEMORIAL AWARDS

ALBANY, NY (01/29/2016)(readMedia)-- Robert F. McCarthy of Mineola and Glenn A. Monk of White Plains were presented with John E. Leach Memorial Awards during the New York State Bar Association's Annual Meeting January 28.

The awards recognize outstanding service and distinguished contributions to the legal profession as a member of the bar association's Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law (TICL) Section.

"As the chair of TICL, Bob was a fearless and decisive leader," said Mirna M. Santiago, (White Fleischner & Fino), chair of the TICL Section. "As a member of the House of Delegates, he has continued to advocate for TICL and serve as a voice for our section. This award is but a small token of the Section's appreciation."

McCarthy is a regional leader at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., with oversight of litigation in more than 15 law offices in six Northeastern states. He is a certified litigation management professional, with a primary specialization in complex, high-exposure cases in commercial, excess, surplus and specialty lines of insurance.

A member of the Association's House of Delegates and Trial Lawyers Section, McCarthy is former chair of TICL and serves on the section's Executive Committee.

Monk is managing partner of the insurance defense practice group at Harrington, Ocko & Monk, specializing in tort defense litigation. "I jokingly call Glenn the 'Godfather' of the section-he is the person you call on when you need something done and done effectively and quickly, whether that is getting in touch with a potential sponsor or putting together a CLE," Santiago said.

"The Leach Award has been a long time coming for Glenn and it is very well deserved for all he does behind the scenes to make our section great."

Monk began his career in the trial division of the New York County District Attorney's Office and has been in the insurance defense field since 1984. He serves on the Association's Executive Committee of TICL and chairs the Premises Liability/Labor Committee.

Monk has also chaired continuing legal education programs, been a speaker and panelist on numerous TICL programs and authored articles for the TICL Journal and NYSBA CLE publications on tort litigation.

The New York State Bar Association, with 74,000 members, is the largest voluntary state bar association in the country. It was founded in 1876.
