Acclaimed Central New York Author to Speak at SUNY Canton

CANTON, NY (03/25/2014)(readMedia)-- Short story author Jennifer Pashley will visit SUNY Canton this month as part of the popular spring Living Writers Series.

She will speak at 6:30 p.m., March 26 in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center's Kingston Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Pashley, who resides in Clinton, is the author of two collections of short stories: "The Conjurer" (2013) and "States" (2007).

The stories in "The Conjurer" have been described as unflinching in their portrayal of humans in love and the side effects of passion, and are hailed as "walking the edge between bravado and poetry, creating their own weird magic."

She is the recipient of the Mississippi Review Prize for Fiction and the Carve Magazine Esoteric Award for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Fiction.

Her stories have appeared in journals such as PANK, SmokeLong Quarterly and Salt Hill.

Now in its second year, the Living Writers Series was created by SUNY Canton Assistant Professor of English Phil K. LaMarche to correspond with his Living Writers Course. Students enrolled in the class read the books by the authors scheduled to visit the College.

The final guest speaker will be New York Times bestselling author George Saunders April 23. For more information on past and upcoming speakers, visit http://www.canton.edu/writers/.
