CANTON, NY (05/14/2013)(readMedia)-- Acting SUNY Canton President Joseph C. Hoffman will be available for interviews at noon Thursday, May 16, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center's Woodcock Conference Suite Room 220. This event will be held exclusively for television, print, radio or other media journalists.
Hoffman is visiting campus to meet with administration, faculty, staff and students before beginning his position on June 1. He is replacing Interim President Carli C. Schiffner, who will be starting her new position as vice president of instruction at Wenatchee Valley College in Washington State. Dr. Schiffner said Dr. Hoffman was an exceptional choice to lead SUNY Canton into the future.
Hoffman has worked at SUNY Maritime since 1977. He served as a mathematics and computer science professor. He was named a distinguished teaching professor in 2001. He also served as the college's provost and vice president for academic affairs from 2006 to 2012.
He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from SUNY Maritime College in 1975. He went on to earn a master's degree in mathematics from Adelphi University in 1977, and he received his doctorate in education from LaSalle University in 1998. The SUNY Board of Trustees awarded him the distinguished teaching professor title in 2001. He also served as a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve from May 1975 to August 1992.
