Adam King of SUNY Oswego earns Chancellor's Award for student excellence

OSWEGO, NY (04/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Adam King of Houston, a political science major at the State University of New York at Oswego, has received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the highest student recognition through the State University system.
Five SUNY Oswego students were among the 350 honorees from 64 SUNY institutions across New York state recognized for high grade-point average and extraordinary contributions to the campus and community. Students graduating between June 2010 and May 2011 were eligible. SUNY Chancellor's Award recipients were honored in an April ceremony in Albany.
King also has been selected to receive the Outstanding Senior Award at SUNY Oswego, presented by the Oswego Alumni Association, at the college's Torchlight Ceremony preceding Commencement in May.
He was active in Oswego's Student Association, Office of Judicial Affairs, ALANA (African, Latino, Asian and Native American) Student Leadership Conference and other organizations and activities. He took part in the political science honors program and served as a teaching assistant in both political science and psychology. He presented his research on campus at Quest and at Political Science Association and McNair Scholars conferences around the country.
He was a student representative to Oswego's Faculty Assembly and Oswego's representative to the all-SUNY Student Assembly. He received a campus Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award and helped plan Oswego Debate Society events. He is the son of Tabetha Wynkoop.
Other SUNY Oswego recipients were Nicole Dean of Lansing, N.Y.; Michelle Hamann of Peru, Maine; Courtney Lupton of Central Square, N.Y.; and Joshua Valentino of Mexico, N.Y.
Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News named it among the "Top Public Regional Universities in the North" for 2011, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its college guidebook "The Best Northeastern Colleges."
A 150-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls over 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.
