After Another Record Year of Overdoses, Advocates to Hold Narcan Trainings + Vigil on Overdose Awareness Day

Brooklyn Community Recovery Center hosts resource info sessions, Narcan trainings and fentanyl test strip demonstrations, and candlelight vigil at Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, NY (08/31/2022) (readMedia)-- Overdose deaths continue to rise to record numbers in NYC and across the country - nearly 108,000 people died of drug overdoses in 2021, the most ever in one year. To recognize and honor the lives lost, Brooklyn Community Recovery Center will host a candlelight vigil at 7:00 p.m.

Earlier in the day, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., the Recovery Center will host resource tabling with community partners.

At 6:00 p.m. the Recovery Center will give a Narcan training and Fentanyl test strip demonstration. With the tragic rise of overdose deaths - more New Yorkers die of drug overdoses than homicidies, suicides, and motor vehicle crashes combined - learning to administer the life-saving overdose drug Narcan is like the new CPR training. And because Fentanyl, a highly potent opioid, is involved in more than 78% of all overdose deaths in NYC, raising awareness of easy-to-use fentanyl test strips is a crucial harm reduction approach that will save lives.
