After Newsom Signs California Balcony Solar Bill, Families Call on Hochul to Sign NY's Bill
NEW YORK, NY (10/02/2026) (readMedia)-- Parents, kids, and grandparents and allied elected officials will gather at Catbird Playground in Carl Schurz Park this Sunday for a festive, colorful event in support of the SUNNY Act (Solar Up Now New York Act, S8512, A9111), a bill to bring plug-in, balcony solar to New York State. After the event, a group of families and children will walk over to Gracie Mansion to deliver children's art.
BACKGROUND: The SUNNY Act for balcony solar passed both the State Senate and Assembly in 2026. Now the bill is on Governor Hochul's desk awaiting her signature. SUNNY is one of nearly 30 bills for plug-in solar across the country, an increasingly popular, low-cost, small scale alternative to rooftop solar. Recently, Governors of Connecticut, New Jersey and most recently, California have signed balcony solar bills.
