Lt. Col. Maureen Murphy received the Meritorious Service Medal from New York Air National Guard Commander Major General Verle Johnston on March 7.

LATHAM, NY (03/07/2014)(readMedia)-- New York Air National Guard Lt. Col. Maureen Murphy, a Baldwinsville resident, received the Meritorious Service Medal from Major General Verle Johnston, the commander of the New York Air National Guard, during a ceremony at New York National Guard Headquarters in Latham on Friday, March 7.

Murphy, who currently serves as Director of Staff for the New York Air National Guard, was recognized for her service while serving as Director of Staff for the 174th Attack Wing at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse.

In her job Murphy was responsible for managing the staff of the 174th Attack Wing, which flies the MQ-9 remotely piloted aircraft and trains MQ-9 maintenance personnel, pilots and sensor operators.

In addition, Murphy took on the responsibility for running the wing's Sexual Assault Response Coordinator Program and managed the wing's psychological health office.

She also ran an outstanding community relations program, coordinated ceremonies, and organized Wingman Days to make 174th Wing members aware of the services offered to them by the Air National Guard.

This is Murphy's forth award of the Meritorious Service Medal.
