Alana Regan Receives Skookum Award at Western New England University

SPRINGFIELD, MA (11/25/2013)(readMedia)-- Alana Regan of Tewksbury was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Regan was one of 15 outstanding studentss receiving awards during ceremonies on the Springfield campus.
Regan is a Doctor of Pharmacy candidate and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society. She has been captain of women's cross country team since her sophomore year. She is involved in the First Year program and served as a Peer Advisor for two years and is currently a Resident Advisor.
During an alternative spring break trip, she volunteered with the Gay Men's Health Center in New York City where she and fellow volunteers spoke with patients/clients, served food, compiled educational materials, held free HIV testing, and prepared for the annual AIDS walk. In addition, Regan volunteers weekly at the Children's Study Home in Springfield, where she provides homework assistance and companionship to high-risk male students.
