HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (08/29/2011)(readMedia)-- At Opening Convocation on Thursday, August 25, Alexander Chase Cartwright, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, received the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award, Second Honor.

A Madison Scholar, Alex serves as a member of the Student Court, as President of the Pre-Law Society, and as Vice-Chair of Good Men Good Citizens. He is also Vice President of both the Student Advocates for Hopeful Politics and the Spanish Club and is Treasurer of the College Republicans. He is the Opinion Editor for the student newspaper, The Hampden-Sydney Tiger, and is a member of the national honor society, the Society for Collegiate Journalists. A mathematical economics and government major, Alex is a graduate of Westfield School and is the son of Bob & Mindy Cartwright of Howard.
