HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (09/06/2012)(readMedia)-- At Opening Convocation on Tuesday, September 4, Alex Tyler Price, a senior at Hampden-Sydney College, received the President's Award for Academic Excellence in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Alex, a Venable Scholar, is a linebacker on the varsity football team and serves as President of the Tiger Athletic Club. He is a member of the Society of Physics Students and the national honorary societies Pi Mu Epsilon (mathematics) and Chi Beta Phi (science). At Final Convocation in Spring 2012, as a junior, Alex received the Selden-Franke Award in Mathematics and, as a sophomore in Spring 2011, he received the Macon Reed Award. A physics and applied mathematics major, Alex is a graduate of Fairfax High School and is the son of Tammi & Jay Price of Fairfax.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
