Alexis Garcia "Gets on the right foot"

LOCK HAVEN, PA (02/29/2012)(readMedia)-- Lock Haven University will be well represented at the 2012 American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) regional meeting hosted by Penn State University. Eleven Lock Haven University students will attending the Northeast Region ACFDA conference, where they will participate in a variety of formal and informal activities. The theme of the conference is "GET ON THE RIGHT FOOT: Dancing for Life." 

Representing LHU at the conference will be East Windsor resident Alexis M. Garcia.  Alexis is a senior majoring in Recreation Management.

The American College Dance Festival Association's primary focus is to support and promote the wealth of talent and creativity that is prominent throughout college and university dance departments. ACDFA's sponsorship of regional conferences and the national dance festival provides the venue for students and faculty to engage in three days of performances, workshops, panels, and master classes taught by instructors from around the region and country.

The conferences also provide the unique opportunity for students and faculty to have their dance works adjudicated by a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals in an open and constructive forum. Culminating with the presentation of pieces selected for their exemplary artistic quality, the conferences are the primary means for college and university dance programs to perform outside their own academic setting and be exposed to the diversity of the national college dance world.

The Lock Haven University dance program presents dance as a fine art as well as a humanity. Dance students develop physically, creatively, scholastically, and professionally in a stimulating and exciting environment. Technique classes in Modern and Ballet are complemented with courses in Dance History, Composition, and Dance Education, and students have the opportunity to perform across the entire spectrum of the performing arts.

The LHU dance program has a dedicated dance studio and the dancers perform in the 300-seat Sloan Fine Arts Center Theatre. Director of the LHU dance program is Professor Jayme Host.
