Aliece Chen Receives PPAGS Community Service Project Award

Chestnut Hill College Doctoral Student Receives Award for Project

PHILADELPHIA, PA (08/01/2011)(readMedia)-- Aliece Chen, a Year III doctoral student in the Department of Professional Psychology at Chestnut Hill College was among several recipients of the 2011 Pennsylvania Psychological Association of Graduate Students (PPAGS) Community Service Project Award for her involvement in a project entitled "Immigration, Acculturation and Parenting: Bridging the Gap Between Immigrant Parents and Their Children," which addressed the need for culturally sensitive mental health services for immigrants in the Philadelphia area.

The goal of the project was to enhance the participants' knowledge about the impact of immigration on mental health, to provide an opportunity to discuss issues relating to the process of acculturation, and to facilitate understanding of struggles that participants as well as their children may face while adapting to the U.S. cultures.

Aliece currently holds a Master of Divinity degree from Westminster Theological Seminary, in addition to a Master of Science in Psychology from Chestnut Hill College. She currently lives in the Center Valley area and works as a therapist for the Child Guidance and Resource Center. Aliece plans to continue to pursue marriage and family counseling, in addition to her other areas of interest, including marital discord, trauma, cultural diversity, addiction, depression, anxiety, and other child-related behavioral issues.
