DECORAH, IA (05/14/2013)(readMedia)-- Emily Voss of Wausau, Wis., will have her work on display May 7-19 in the Kristen Wigley-Fleming Gallery in the Center for the Arts building on the Luther College campus.
A reception will be held for the artists just outside of the exhibit in the Center for the Arts at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18. The reception is open to the public with no charge for admission.
Voss, the daughter of Paula and Mark of Wausau, is majoring in fine arts and Spanish. She is a 2009 graduate of Wausau West High School.
Voss' work includes digital photographs. Voss explains, "My work demonstrates that commercial portraiture is no different than oil portraiture and should not be valued as a more realistic depiction. I wish to take the secrets out of commercial portraiture and expose the reality of what goes on behind the scenes. Not only are the images manipulated by specialized retouchers but the models themselves are extensively transformed by makeup artists, stylists, airbrush machines and beautifying 'tricks of the trade' before the strobes even begin to flash."
The annual exhibit is held to give the students graduating with an art major the opportunity to present a sample of their entire senior project one final time while in college. The exhibit features a variety of works including painting, sculpture, photography, collage, video and mixed-media installation pieces.
The student exhibitors include Maseeh Ahmed, Kurt Bearinger, Sophia Brown, Ingrid Cologne, Nellie Herold, Eric Hild, Katelyn Kluge, Jason Knutson, Hannah Kosgard, Phoebe Jan-McMahon, Robby Scott, Emily Temte and Rose Weselmann.
