Alliance for Clean Energy New York Congratulates GE on Battery Plant Expansion

Advanced Energy Storage Complements Clean Energy and Efficiency Initiatives

ALBANY, NY (07/10/2012)(readMedia)-- Today General Electric Co. Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt visited the Capital Region to announce a new $70 million investment to expand GE's advanced manufacturing battery factory in Schenectady, effectively doubling production and adding 100 new jobs. The Alliance for Clean Energy New York (ACE NY), a statewide coalition dedicated to promoting clean energy and energy efficiency technologies, offered the following response:

"We applaud GE for its continued investment in New York and look forward to the growth of its new energy storage business," said Carol E. Murphy, executive director of ACE NY. "By increasing energy efficiency and the ability to work in concert with renewable energy technologies, advanced energy storage has a very important role to play in building a sustainable future. GE has consistently been at the forefront of innovation and job creation in New York's clean tech sector, and as a long-standing member of ACE NY, we appreciate their ongoing contributions to the state's clean energy economy."

"New York has already laid the groundwork for world-class research and development in clean energy and energy efficiency and, as GE has shown us, with strong support and coordination between the public and private sectors, manufacturing and commercialization of these advanced technologies is yet another opportunity for job creation and investment," continued Ms. Murphy. "We hope GE's work in energy storage becomes just one of many clean tech success stories for the Capital Region and the state as a whole."
