American Hebrew Academy Student Micaela Naibryf Of Weston, Florida Named To All-Conference Cross-Country Team
GREENSBORO, NC (02/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The American Hebrew Academy is proud to announce that sophomore Micaela "Mica" Naibryf of Weston, Florida was recently named to the Triad Athletic Conference's All-Conference Cross-Country Team. This honor ranks Mica among the area's elite cross-country runners for the 2010-2011 school year.
Mica was recognized for her accomplishment along with 40 other All-Conference female runners as they competed in the Conference Finals race, which was held on October 21st at the Carolina Friends School in Durham, North Carolina.
Academy Cross-Country Coach Tom Christopher was particularly impressed with Mica's dedication and drive during practices and races. "Mica is an incredibly determined runner, giving it her all during practices and during the meets. She will literally use 100% of her energy during a race," Christopher explained. "At conferences, she ran so hard that she nearly passed out shortly after crossing the finish line!"
Mica had an impressive season as she placed in the top 5 in each of her regular season races, including coming in 1st place in her first race of the year. She went on to finish 2nd out of 41 runners in the Conference Finals and 14th out of 174 runners at States, where she set a personal record with a time of 21 minutes 28 seconds.
Mica has found a new passion in running since coming to the Academy, America's only Jewish pluralistic college prep boarding school. "Every time I take a step, I feel as if I am taking another breath of air and life. I had never run in a cross-country team before coming to AHA and once I started freshman year, I loved it! It was the extra spark I needed in my life," she revealed. Mica gained a lot from being part of the team. "I have learned that, to be in a successful team, one has to confide and observe different techniques. We are all our own leaders, but together we succeed with spirit, passion and determination that bond us all together!"
