American Hebrew Academy Student Sara Wernick Of Highland Mills, NY Named To All-Conference Cross-Country Team
GREENSBORO, NC (02/02/2011)(readMedia)-- The American Hebrew Academy is proud to announce that freshman Sara Wernick of Highland Mills, NY was recently named to the Triad Athletic Conference's All-Conference Cross-Country Team. This honor ranks Sara among the area's elite cross-country runners for the 2010-2011 school year.
Sara was recognized for her accomplishment along with 40 other All-Conference female runners as they competed in the Conference Finals race, which was held on October 21st at the Carolina Friends School in Durham, North Carolina.
Academy Cross-Country Coach Tom Christopher was thrilled with Sara's rapid progress during her first year on the squad. "Sara put in a great first year on the team. She's very competitive and she quickly learned how to run past her previous limits," Christopher explained. "Sara improved a lot this season, and we're looking forward to a great season next year!"
Sara had an exciting season as she placed in the top 10 in each of her regular season races, including coming in 3rd place in her first race of the year. She went on to finish 7th out of 41 runners in the Conference Finals and 52nd out of 174 runners at States, and she set a personal record at Conferences with a time of 23 minutes 14 seconds.
The American Hebrew Academy, America's only Jewish pluralistic college prep boarding school, provided a supportive environment in which Sara could flourish as a runner and as a teammate. "Racing for AHA is amazing because there aren't that many people on the team, so we are all like a little supportive family in a way, helping each other out and being there for each other," Sara conveyed.
Practices and races gave Sara a time to simultaneously clear her head and push herself to the limit. "I like running because I can think about whatever I want to- what has occurred that day or what I will do the next day- while focusing on quickly getting to the finish line at the same time. Also, finishing a race knowing you've just broken your personal best serves as incredible motivation to do even better the next race."
