American Physical Therapy Association to Honor Nazareth Professor

ROCHESTER, NY (10/14/2009)(readMedia)-- Nazareth College is proud to announce that Sara Gombatto, assistant professor of physical therapy, has been selected by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as an Emerging Leader Award recipient for 2009. This award honors physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who have demonstrated extraordinary service early in their therapy career.

Gombatto, a resident of Webster, N.Y., is honored for her work at Nazareth lecturing on kinesiology and musculoskeletal disorders, coordinating the 3-D motion capture laboratory, and supervising graduate student research and community service outreach projects. Gombatto also serves on the APTA Orthopaedic Section and the New York Physical Therapy Association research committees. She is a prolific researcher and author and is a reviewer for several journals including Physiotherapy, the Journal of Sports Science & Medicine, and Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.

The APTA is a national professional organization representing more than 72,000 members. Its goal is to support advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education. The organization represents and promotes the physical therapy profession and aims to further its role in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of movement dysfunctions and the enhancement of the physical health and functional abilities of members of the public.

Founded in 1924, Nazareth College is a coeducational college with undergraduate and graduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in health and human services, education, and management. The College is located on 150 scenic acres near Rochester, New York, and currently enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students.
