An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein provides a look into the gleeful and often ghoulish humor of one of the most successful children's authors, illustrators, and song writers that the world has known. The play itself is comprised of 10 of Silverstein's short plays written throughout his career.

The shorts cover a variety of adult topics. Buy One, Get One Free involves prostitutes offering a "golden opportunity." Bus Stop is a short portraying a man standing on a corner with a "bust stop" sign. In The Lifeboat is Sinking, two characters play a game of "Who would you save if the family was drowning."

The play debuted two years after Silverstein's death at New York's Atlantic Theater Company in 2001 and was directed by Karen Kohlhaas.
