Andrew Bauer Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College junior Andrew Alexander Bauer received the Mary Saunders Critical Essay Prize, presented by Dr. Evan R. Davis, Elliott Associate Professor of English. The Saunders Critical Essay award was established in 2008 upon the retirement of Mary Saunders, a beloved colleague and the first woman to be tenured at Hampden-Sydney College. Andrew's winning essay was, "John Milton's Vision of Proper Companionship in Paradise Lost."

Andrew serves as Historian of the social fraternity Phi Gamma Delta and is a member of the Pre-Law Society. An English major, Andrew graduated from Westchester Country Day School and is the son of Alex & Margee Bauer of High Point.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the education of young men.
