KUTZTOWN, PA (10/24/2018) Congratulations to Anne Manmiller, academic department secretary of the history department, on being named Kutztown University Employee of the Month for September 2018. Manmiller's nomination from Dr. Andrew Arnold reads like this:

"Anne Manmiller is an expert, welcoming presence. She remains professional and enthusiastic even in difficult times; I'm amazed at her composure on a daily basis. Our goals in the history department are to provide a rich educational experience for all of our students, and we could not do this without her. My students consistently say that Anne has 'time and again proven herself an ally and a valuable resource for all of the history students,' and I could not agree more.

Anne is essential to the department's achievements because she always takes initiative. For example, she was the animating influence behind the Judy Groff Study Center, named for the history department's long-term secretary who passed away several years ago. Students use this center to study, write papers and share their secrets of success, and it's now become a home for our history and secondary education social studies students. Thanks to Anne's mastery of KU's administrative systems, she is able to continually nudge us towards new ways to serve students. She manages all the paperwork, purchases, grant applications, and interactions with the dean, provost and president's offices. She truly does her best to make things possible and is the reason why the department runs smoothly.

Anne's dedication to supporting both the university mission and students is exemplified in her assistance with the National History Day (NHD) regional competition. When NHD finally gave us the go-ahead to host their regional competition late in the year, Anne made it happen. She fielded the panicked phone calls and set up the financial system for collecting and distributing funds. She negotiated food and space, and by force of will and through the reputation she has built up on campus, she led our faculty and students to success. NHD got the best reviews on their judging that they had ever received, and the event brought hundreds of students interested in history from the region to KU for the first time, all thanks to Anne. She continues to serve as a trusted liaison to students and is a voice for them. 'Oh,' she says, as they're nervously signing up for a new major, research project or internship, 'you'll be fine! You're going to love it!'"

Nominations are collected from students, faculty and staff, and the Employee of the Month is selected by the Human Resources Advisory Council. A winner will be selected each month and out of the 12 monthly winners one will be selected as Employee of the Year.
