Area "Mathletes" Win Regional Math Competition at SUNY Delhi

DELHI, NY (03/11/2014)(readMedia)-- Ithaca's Boynton Middle School won the regional finals of the annual MATHCOUNTS competition held on the SUNY Delhi campus. The team will compete in the state finals at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, in March.

Boynton's Eric Dusenberry and Miryam Ginsparg were the top scoring male and female Mathletes. Laura Jones and Melissa Smith coach the Boynton team. Team winners received trophies and Dusenberry and Ginsparg received $1,000 scholarship certificates from SUNY Delhi.

Second and third place honors went to DeWitt Middle School, coached by Thomas Fisher-York, and Vestal Middle School, coached by JoAnn D'Angelo and Cathy Jeremko.

Locally, this program is made possible through the support of SUNY Delhi with leadership of middle school math teachers and The Broome Area Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers (NYSSPE).
