Area Resident Rebecca Zurek Named Phi Kappa Phi Scholar of the Year at SUNY Cortland

CORTLAND, NY (04/16/2010)(readMedia)-- SUNY Cortland's chapter of Phi Kappa Phi has named Rebecca Zurek, a Syracuse, N.Y., native, one of six students to be recognized as Scholars of the Year.
The scholars received $50 and were honored at an April 17 ceremony in the Corey Union Function Room. The SUNY Cortland chapter of the national, interdisciplinary honor society recognized the students based on their academic accomplishments and their leadership and volunteer involvement at the College.
A senior psychology major, she is the daughter of Jeffrey Zurek.
Zurek has made the Dean's List and President's List and received an Award for Excellence in Academics and Athletics.
Zurek works in the Cortland Physiopsychology Laboratory as a senior research assistant. She captains the women's track and field team.
Upon graduating, she will pursue a master's degree in industrial and organizational psychology or human resources.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for all academic disciplines. Each year, about 30,000 members are initiated into the society on nearly 300 campuses in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines.
