Area Residents Named to All-HAAC Baseball Team

CANTON, MO (05/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Culver-Stockton College outfielder Sal Rivera, first baseman Corey Gilbert and outfielder Rickey Brown were named to the 2011 Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball team, the league announced recently. 

Rivera, a senior from Sacramento, Calif. (Sheldon HS / Chico State University), was named to the first team after batting .370 with a team-high 48 runs scored. He collected 54 hits, including 12 doubles, two triples and two home runs, and recorded 22 runs batted in from his leadoff position. Rivera also walked a team-best 26 times and was hit by a pitch 15 times. His on-base percentage was .505 and his slugging percentage was .521. In addition, Rivera was the only Wildcat awarded a Gold Glove by the conference after he did not commit an error on 48 chances in left field.

Gilbert, a senior from Elk Grove, Calif. (Laguna Creek HS / Cosumnes River College), was named to the second team after batting .362 with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs. In 43 games (39 starts), Gilbert recorded 30 runs batted in, scored 19 runs and collected 37 hits in 110 at-bats. He also netted a .473 slugging percentage and a .411 on-base percentage.

Brown, a junior from Elk Grove, Calif. (Franklin HS / Missouri Valley College), was an honorable mention selection after batting .346 in 48 games (47 starts). He collected 54 hits in 156 at-bats, scored 41 runs and had 30 runs batted in. Among his 54 hits were 13 doubles, four triples and four home runs for a slugging percentage of .558. 

The Wildcats finished the 2011 season with a 37-17 overall record and captured their seventh HAAC regular season championship with a 24-4 league mark. Culver-Stockton advanced to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Tournament, going 1-2 in tournament play.

The HAAC consists of 11 colleges and universities in four states, including Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska.
