Argentine film "I, the Worst of All" to be screened September 19, 2014

ALBANY, NY (09/05/2014)(readMedia)-- I, THE WORST OF ALL [YO, LA PEOR DE TODAS], (Argentina, 1990, 105 minutes, color, in Spanish with English subtitles, directed by María Luisa Bemberg) will be shown on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany's downtown campus. Sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute as part of its Classic Film Series, the screening is free and open to the public.

Based on a biography by Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, this film tells the story of the embattled 17th century nun, Sister Juana, who would come to be regarded as the mother of Mexican literature. The Boston Globe described it as "engrossing, enriching, and elegant...."

The film is being screened in conjunction with an appearance by celebrated translator of Spanish literature Edith Grossman, who has published a translation of Sister Juana's poetry, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. Grossman will read from the translation at 8:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall, Campus Center, on the UAlbany uptown campus. Earlier that day at 4:15 p.m. Grossman will hold a seminar on translation in the same location.
