Assemblymember Russell to Speak at SUNY Canton in Honor of Constitution Day

CANTON, NY (09/09/2015)(readMedia)-- In recognition of Constitution Day Sept. 17, state Assemblymember Addie Jenne Russell will speak at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center's Kingston Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Russell's speech is the first of a series of events SUNY Canton is hosting in honor of Constitution Day. On Thursday, Sept. 17, SUNY Canton will host a voter registration drive, as well as a trivia contest. Local fifth- and sixth-grade students are also participating in a Constitution Day poster contest, which will judged by a group of SUNY Canton students, faculty and staff.

Constitution Day recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is observed Sept. 17, the day in which delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia in 1787.

Russell is a 1996 graduate of Indian River Central School District. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude, from the University at Albany in May 2000, and a Juris Doctor degree with a Certificate in Family Law and Social Policy from Syracuse University College of Law in May 2003. She was born in Watertown now resides in Theresa.
