August Widmer Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/10/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College senior August Brooks Widmer received The Cohen Citizenship Award, presented by Mr. K. Loren Hubbard '13, President of the Lambda Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa. This Award is presented annually by the Lambda Circle of ODK to a member of the senior class who has demonstrated citizenship and leadership which exemplifies the ideals of ODK. The award is named for Lee Cohen, a much admired and loved member of the Hampden-Sydney mathematics department, who for over a decade served as Faculty Secretary of the Lambda Circle. Professor Cohen was an honored teacher, a dedicated participant in activities at Hampden-Sydney College and the larger community, and an exemplar of the ODK ideals of citizenship and leadership.
August serves as Chair of the Inter-Fraternity Council and as Secretary of the social fraternity Kappa Alpha. He is a member of the Student Government Association and the Pre-Law Society. At Final Convocation in April 2012, August received the Jeffrey N. Friend Award recognizing a generous spirit and leadership abilities. A history major, August graduated from The Covenant School and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Daniel J. Widmer of Charlottesville.
