August Widmer Receives Final Convocation Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College junior August Brooks Widmer received the Jeffrey N. Friend Award, presented by Mr. Mladen Cvijanovic '08, Assistant Dean of Students. This Award is given to the rising senior who best typifies the qualities for which this late member of the Class of 1984 is remembered: a generous spirit, leadership abilities, and an unusual skill for bringing out the best in his friends and brothers.
August serves as Secretary of the social fraternity Kappa Alpha and as Chair of the Inter-Fraternity Council. He is a member of the Student Government Association and the Pre-Law Society. A history major, August graduated from The Covenant School and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel J. Widmer of Charlottesville.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
