Aurora University museum director Meg Bero addresses national conference

AURORA, IL (08/15/2011)(readMedia)-- Meg Bero, executive director of the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures at Aurora University, discussed the Schingoethe Fellowship program during a presentation at a national conference July 26.
The Batavia resident was among speakers at the annual meeting of the Association of Midwest Museums at Chicago. The theme of the session, a joint conference with the Visitors Studies Association and the Illinois Association of Museums, was "Celebrating Cultural Institutions and Communities."
Bero was among panelists for a workshop, "The Promise of Partnerships: Museum Studies in Practice." The session presented partnership models and funding initiatives for enhancing museum studies education beyond internships and classroom instruction.
The Schingoethe Fellowship program gives AU students the opportunity to receive one-year appointments in the museum after graduation. Founded in 1990, the Schingoethe Center on the Aurora University campus showcases more than 4,000 Native American items.
