AURORA, IL (02/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Laura Vincent, an Aurora University senior business and commerce and accounting major from Coos Bay, Ore., has been selected to represent AU in the Financial Executives International Chicago chapter scholarship competition on Feb. 16.

Vincent, who earned a $1,000 scholarship as the AU contest nominee, will compete against students from Loyola University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Northern Illinois University, DePaul University, Roosevelt University and Dominican University at the Metropolitan Club in Chicago.

The former resident of Winchester Bay and Lakeside, Ore., will participate in a panel-style interview with the opportunity to win an additional $1,500 to $2,500 scholarship. Winners will be chosen based on their performance during the interview process and an essay submission.

Vincent was selected by an AU faculty committee that considered eight candidates nominated by AU accounting and finance professors. Selection committee members reviewed candidates' application materials, activities and leadership skills. Vincent was sponsored by David Diehl, MBA program director and Assistant Professor of Business.

Vincent's career goals include becoming a Certified Professional Accountant and medical doctor. She was the 2010 valedictorian at Southwestern Oregon Community College before transferring to AU last fall.
