HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/09/2012)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 26, Hampden-Sydney College senior Austin M. Blackwell received the Cecil Richard Bowman '67 M.D. Award, presented by Ms. Angela J. Way, Museum Director/Curator. This award is given in memory of Cecil Richard Bowman '67 (1945-1977) through endowments to the museum given by his mother Mrs. Cecil C. Bowman. It recognizes outstanding student service to the Esther Thomas Atkinson Museum.

Austin is a member of the social fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. An economics and commerce major, Austin graduated from Brunswick Academy and is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Allen M. Blackwell of Emporia.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
