Avery Moncure Presents Departmental Honors Project

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (04/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Hampden-Sydney College senior Louis Avery Moncure presented his Departmental Honors Project recently in a public lecture at the College. Avery is one of a select group of seniors who undertook an extended research project which culminated in a public presentation. Although the departmental honors students are undergraduates, they are expected to pursue their research project at a graduate-school level. Each project is evaluated on its originality, on the thoroughness of its research methods, and on the quality of the final presentation.
Avery's project, for Honors in Chemistry, was entitled "Investigations Concerning the Stability of an Evolving Quaternary System of the type Oil/Water/NaOH/Surfactant." A chemistry major, Avery is a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and is the son of Buzzy & Vanessa Moncure of Fredericksburg.
A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.
