WHITE PLAINS, NY (01/10/2022) (readMedia)-- Today, Avports announced the appointment of April Gasparri to Westchester County Airport Manager. Ms. Gasparri is an accomplished airport executive who has worked at three major airports in the Northeast U.S. for over 15 years. Peter Scherrer – who served as manager of the Westchester County Airport since 2005 – has been promoted to Vice President of Airport Management Services and is part of the executive team. In the coming weeks, Mr. Scherrer will help ensure a seamless transition with Ms. Gasparri.
Ms. Gasparri has served in various leadership roles at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey – JFK and LaGuardia (LGA) Airports – as well as at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), mainly in the areas of operations and maintenance, business strategy, policy development, customer experience and process improvement. She has blended her military experience into her work as an airport executive and has been recognized for her outstanding team-building skills. April graduated from West Point and served in the U.S. Army as a commissioned officer and helicopter pilot-in-command from 1999 - 2006. She remains engaged as a reserve officer supporting the U.S. Army, Pacific and has honed her stakeholder management skills through her work with the Pacific Theater Command. April understands all the complexities that go into running a top-flight airport through her years with PANYNJ and PIT, and she looks forward to applying those management skills to Westchester County Airport.
Over these years, the airport has experienced a smooth and sustained evolution in terms of new opportunities for economic development, additional focus on environmental sustainability, and an excellent relationship with the communities around the airport based on transparency and respect. In his new role, Scherrer will be responsible for the continuous development, improvement and support of current and future Avports airport management services. He will also help bring best-practices to the other airport projects managed by Avports across the U.S., with special focus on the North-East region.
Jorge Roberts, CEO, said, "We are very proud to bring April and her years of experience into the Avports family. She brings an invaluable set of skills, and under Peter's guidance, we're confident the transition will be seamless. We're excited that Peter will be joining my executive team, and I'm confident his years of experience at Westchester will serve him well in this new role. I would like to thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the County, and for his leadership in implementing the Safe Hands© protocol to keep our travelers safe throughout the Covid pandemic."
"I'm excited to be joining the Avports family and to serve the Westchester community," said April Gasparri. "I'm confident in a smooth transition to ensure exceptional service the community has grown accustomed to under Peter's leadership, and I wish him luck in his new opportunity."
"I am honored to be joining Avports' corporate team," said Peter Scherrer. "Under Jorge's leadership, Avports offers an unparalleled level of service to every airport we operate. Service to the public has always been at the heart of who I am and how I managed at Westchester County Airport. While being manager at Westchester has been a privilege, I'm very excited for this new opportunity. I applaud my colleagues at Westchester for their tireless service during my tenure, especially during these less predictable times, and I know April has the experience and capability needed to take on this role."
