BVU's Student Organization to Host Glass Slipper Shop

STORM LAKE, IA (02/22/2018) (readMedia)-- Buena Vista University's (BVU) student organization, Student MOVE (Mobilizing Outreach & Volunteer Efforts), will be hosting the annual Glass Slipper Shop event on the BVU campus.

The event is open to members of the Storm Lake and surrounding communities on the following dates and times:

• Friday, Feb. 23 from 3 – 6 p.m. in Swope Hall

• Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Swope Hall

• Friday, March 9 from 3 – 6 p.m. in Swope Hall

• Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Swope Hall

The Glass Slipper Shop gives the local community the opportunity to purchase new and gently used prom dresses and other formal dresses at a lower cost. Approximately 200 dresses of various styles, sizes, and colors have been donated by dress shops such as A Heavenly Celebration in Emmetsburg and Stacey's Bridal Shop in Urbandale, as well as BVU students and community members. The dresses can viewed on Student MOVE's Glass Slipper Shop Facebook page.

"The Glass Slipper Shop is one of Student MOVE's favorite events," said Dr. Ashley Farmer-Hanson, assistant dean for student life and director of civic engagement. "We get to help young women find affordable dresses and make a donation to a great cause in our community. Our students have done an excellent job finding a wide variety of styles and sizes to meet everyone's needs."

Glass Slipper Shop proceeds will go to Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) in Storm Lake to benefit those in need. Snacks and refreshments will be provided during the event.

BVU's Student MOVE organization works to improve lives, foster civic engagement and strengthen the connection between the Storm Lake and University communities. It generates opportunities for BVU students to grow and explore their hidden passions through character-building programs such as service-learning, alternative events, and student education.
