Bakers Create Cakes to Honor Windsor Heights 75th Anniversary

DES MOINES, IA (08/17/2017) (readMedia)-- Marianne Carlson of Jefferson won first place and a $100 cash award in the 75th Anniversary Dessert competition, judged Wednesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville claimed second place and a $50 cash award. Jodi Brady of Runnells earned third place and $20.

Contestants were challenged to create an award worthy cake to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the City of Windsor Heights.

Entries were judged on taste and presentation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
