Barron Frazier receives the Anna Carrington Harrison Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/16/2012)(readMedia)-- On May 13, at commencement ceremonies marking the end of the 237th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College, Steven Barron Frazier, Class of 2012 (left), received the Anna Carrington Harrison Award. The award was presented by Dr. Robert T. Herdegen III, Dean of the Faculty at Hampden-Sydney College. The Anna Carrington Harrison Award, a medal and cash award, is given annually as a memorial to the mother of Mr. Fred N. Harrison of Richmond. It is awarded to that student who shows the most constructive leadership in each school year.

A Venable Scholar, Frazier served as President of both Good Men Good Citizens and the President's Men. He planned and organized "Greeks for Green" and the "H-SC Cares for Kids" programs. Frazier is a member of the honorary societies Phi Beta Kappa (academics), Omicron Delta Kappa (leadership), and Chi Beta Phi (science) and the Society of '91 (leadership program). He has received the Sophomore Academic Excellence Award, the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award, and the Lewis & Nell Drew Student Government Award. He was recognized for student leadership in the 2012 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Frazier's Senior Fellowship project, for Honors in Biology and Anthropology, was entitled "The Science and Philosophy of Cherokee Indian Medicine: A Natural Alternative to Western Solutions." Graduating summa cum laude with a B.S. in biology and Second Honor, Frazier is the son of Jane Hudgins Frazier of Norfolk and Steven E. Frazier of Chesapeake. He will be attending Eastern Virginia Medical School in the fall.
