Speaker and Actor Barry Scott as Dr. Martin Luther King

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (01/11/2010)(readMedia)-- Barry Scott, an authority on the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., initially created "A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.," to teach college students about one of America's most violent and inspiring times -- and the man who mobilized a generation of people and changed the world. It was his own brush with discrimination as a youth that spawned Scott's need to share Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s story.

Scott will bring his presentation to Elizabethtown College's Leffler Chapel & Performance Center at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20. His powerful one-hour presentation, sponsored by the Elizabethtown College Office of Student Activities, will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Scott will discuss King and the Civil Rights Movement. And he will "become" Dr. King, as he recreates some of his most inspiring speeches. Scott is so convincing in his portrayal of Dr. King, that Coretta Scott King approached him between acts of a play to compliment him on his realistic and honest depiction of her late husband.

He performed excerpts of King's speeches for the Humanitarian Awards Ceremony honoring President Jimmy Carter and was recorded on the "March On" album benefiting the National Civil Rights Museum. He has appeared at the Beacon Theater, New York; Fox Theater, Atlanta; 0Seattle Children's Theater; and Alabama Shakespeare Festival to name a few .

A successful actor, writer, producer, director, motivational speaker and voice-over artist, Scott is recognized as founder and producing artistic director of the American Negro Playwright Theatre at Tennessee State University. He has performed for the Tennessee Repertory Theatre and has been in film and television roles, including a role as a disabled Vietnam veteran in the award winning Travis Tritt country music video trilogy, "Anymore."

In addition to the Barry Scott appearance, Elizabethtown College is hosting several other on-campus events during MLK Celebration Week 2010.
