Berg and Douglas Head Buena Vista University Community Campaign
STORM LAKE, IA (09/11/2017) (readMedia)-- Buena Vista University (BVU) has announced that Steve Berg and Dr. Dan Douglas will be the co-chairs for its 2017-2018 Community Campaign.
Upon graduating from the University of Iowa in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Berg, originally from Storm Lake, returned to his hometown to join his family's business, Berg Jewelry, where he is currently the owner.
"As a lifelong resident of Storm Lake, I have had the unique opportunity to see how Buena Vista University has enriched our community," said Berg. "Many graduates of BVU have elected to stay in Storm Lake. They play a key role in business, volunteerism and making Storm Lake a vibrant community to live in. I am pleased to do my part as a co-chair to support BVU's Community Campaign."
Berg and his wife, Pamela, an accountant for Northwest Concrete, have two children: Andrew, a pharmacist who resides in Denver; and Amy, a CPA who lives in Des Moines.
Berg's community involvement includes being the former president of Lake Creek Country Club and serving on various committees at St. Mark Lutheran Church. He also served as a Community Campaign volunteer in 2002, 2003 and 2007.
Douglas, who grew up in Laurens and Orange City, earned a bachelor's degree in general science in 1980 and a doctor of dental surgery degree in 1984, both from the University of Iowa. After spending a year of general practice residency at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Douglas practiced dentistry for two years in Iowa Falls before establishing his own practice, Dr. Daniel Douglas, DDS, in Storm Lake in 1987.
"Buena Vista University is a vital asset of our community," said Douglas. "It continues to be a stable and strong contributor to our local economy and provides a quality education for many local and regional students. The support of our business and professional community is an important factor in ensuring a bright future for the University."
Douglas and his wife, Wende, who works at Douglas' practice, have three children: Alison, an immigration attorney who lives in Minneapolis; Heather, a technology project manager who resides in Palo Alto, Calif.; and Peter, a current dental student at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
Douglas has served as a council member at St. Mark Lutheran Church and as a president and a member of the Storm Lake School Board. He co-chaired BVU's Community Campaign in 2001, and was a volunteer in 2003 and 2016.
BVU is an independent university where the primary income comes from student tuition and fees. Contributions to the Community Campaign help support the University's annual operating expenses, which provide resources for scholarships and development of innovative academic programs, internships and undergraduate research opportunities.
The Community Campaign, which has a goal of $125,000 this year, kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. in the Dows Conference Center of the Harold Walter Siebens Forum on the BVU campus. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
