Best Bologna Creation Wins State Fair Crown

DES MOINES, IA (09/06/2024) (readMedia)-- Patty J. Hunt of Ankeny won first place and a $100 cash award in the Ulrich Pella Bologna Main Dish Casserole competition judged Tuesday, August 13, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Kyle Barton of West Des Moines earned second place and $50. Cathy Stahlman of Boone claimed third place and $25.

Contestants were tasked to create an award-worthy main dish casserole using Ulrich Pella Bologna as an ingredient.

Entries were judged on taste, ability to replicate and uniqueness/creativity.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
