ASHLAND, OH (04/22/2013)(readMedia)-- Ashland University senior Beth Mantkowski of Fairlawn, OH, recently was accepted into the Master of Occupational Therapy program at Cleveland State University for the fall of 2013.
Mantkowski is the daughter of Gary and Annette Mantkowski of Fairlawn, OH. She is a 2009 graduate of Copley High School and is majoring in biology at Ashland University.
Mantkowski said she job shadowed a few occupational therapists during the summer between her sophomore and junior years, which helped her decide on occupational therapy as a career.
When Mantkowski was asked how she decided to go with Cleveland State (CSU) she replied, "I basically just started looking up schools in Ohio and the surrounding states, to see what programs I had to proper prerequisites for. CSU was one of those schools. I went on a visit this past fall and have a great experience with the faculty, and was impressed with the resources they make available to you as a student."
In order to get into Cleveland State for the Occupational Therapy program, the following pre-requirements had to be completed, or have to have a plan to complete them: anatomy, physiology, Neuroscience, pathology, lifespan development, abnormal psychology, statistics, and medical terminology. Also students need to have a minimum GPA of a 3.0, and calculated science-course GPA of a 3.0, and an application that included an essay explaining why that student wants to become an OT.
"My time at AU has definitely prepared me for their program. I have had great professors who have taught me a lot in my four years here. I feel they have provided me with a solid foundation that I will be able to build upon at the graduate level," Mantkowski said.
Although Mantkowski is nervous to start this program, she is extremely excited. "It will be great to start a new chapter in my life, but I know the program will be challenging and the coursework will be tough," she said.
