Bill Shumadine Honored at Hampden-Sydney College Graduation

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/10/2011)(readMedia)-- On May 8, at commencement ceremonies marking the end of the 236th academic year at Hampden-Sydney College, William F. Shumadine, Jr., H-SC Class of 1966, of Richmond received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion. This Award, presented annually by the New York Southern Society in honor of its first president, Algernon Sydney Sullivan, is given to a friend of the College who has brought high credit to Hampden-Sydney and to himself by service to the College and his home community. The award was presented by Hampden-Sydney College President Dr. Christopher B. Howard.
After graduating from Hampden-Sydney, Shumadine went on to a career in the world of banking and finance, and he has been a truly worthy son of this College. Dogged in pursuit of an ideal, he willingly leads by example. His service to Hampden-Sydney has been steady and extensive, including several terms on the Board of Trustees. His fellow Board members elected him as an emeritus Trustee this past year.
Energetic whenever charged with a task, Shumadine diligently sees a project through to successful completion. His many contributions to Hampden-Sydney resulted in his selection for the Alumni Citation in 1986 and of the Keating Medallion in 2000.
